A Melbourne doctor has been banned from performing circumcisions following two recent botched procedures, including one that resulted in the partial amputation of a baby's penis causing lifelong injury and severe blood loss that led to the boy's hospitalisation.
In April the Medical Board of Australia barred Dr Hershel Goldman from performing circumcisions over concerns for public safety. Dr Goldman appealed, but a 30 May decision by the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal (published on 12 June) upheld the ban. A substantive hearing and final appeal will take place later this year at a date yet to be set.
