A survivor of religious infant circumcision has called on the UN Human Rights Council to protect boys from medically unnecessary genital cutting. In a video statement facilitated by the National Secular Society, Oliver – whose father is Jewish – shared the profound physical, sexual and psychological fallout of circumcision. He argued the practice violates the right to bodily autonomy and freedom of religion or belief, and called for the decision to be deferred until the individual is capable of providing consent.
